Does Game Based Learning Motivate Students More Than Intelligent Tutoring?There has been some debate whether game based learning will benefit students more than intelligent tutoring. I personally am not convinced that this is the case, but the fact is that a lot of educational institutions have been implementing game based learning for quite some time now. This is perhaps because the game based learning helps students learn how to play the game they are playing in the first place, rather than using a single game to teach them something.For instance, think about the puzzle games. When a child is playing the puzzles, they can be taught how to work the whole picture. A student can then go on to solve a real problem later on. Not only is it a way to help them become more adept at the game, but it also teaches them more about the picture or the item they are dealing with.It is no surprise then that a lot of schools and learning institutions have incorporated games into their curriculum, a s it is possible to come up with some of the most creative and interesting games if you involve the student's own unique skill and ability. If you are going to offer some form of structured learning at school, game-based learning is an excellent way to engage students and give them an opportunity to showcase their abilities.This is the main reason that I am not convinced that games will benefit students more than intelligent tutoring. There are lots of games that are more complex and require more practice means that it will take more time to get the student to where they need to be, so that they are able to grasp the lesson at hand. In addition, it is not always necessary to do this type of thing when it comes to interactive games.If there are interactive games available that are suitable for a certain subject, then it is advisable to use these games fora given period of time, instead of giving the students free reign over the computer screen. It is always a good idea to use games t hat involve real life situations. For example, if you are teaching students about a particular task, then you will want to include a scenario that relates back to what you are teaching.When you are creating scenarios for students to learn from, you should also consider how they would actually act upon your simulated situation. This is so you can ensure that your students feel a sense of achievement when they are solving the game, rather than just sitting in front of the computer, not knowing what they are supposed to do.Also, in terms of game design, the most important thing is not to confuse game design with game execution. These two are very different and should not be mixed up.
